Home of The Wall
The WWII Chaffee County Honor Roll Board is a tribute to the 700+ Chaffee County residents who served during World War II. For over 50 years these men were enshrined beneath a thick layer of stucco on the South wall of what was originally Alexander’s Drug & Jewelry Store on the corner of F and Second Streets in Salida. Then Larry Kachadourian arrived and changed all that. Larry found "The Wall" again while creating the "F" Street Five & Dime in that location. He pushed on a pipe sticking through an inside wall and it went through the outside wall, revealing a small portion of the memorial--Enough to see the important artifact hiding there. After that, with the help of Salida's Dan Johnson the wall became an ongoing community restoration project that residents of Salida and Chaffee County pitched in to renovate. This just proves that what locals say is true, Salida is all ❤️! Come by and take your picture by this historic landmark when you stop by the "F" Street Five & Dime and post on The Wall FB Page with #SalidaVetWallPic.
